This stretch of the coastline enjoys some of the most impressive caves, cliffs and rock formations in the Algarve. The small boats which operate from the beach are perfect for going right inside the caves. From Armação de Pêra the famous Benagil cave and Marina beach are also within easy reach of the boats so make sure you take your camera.

Bone Chapel

The Bones Chapel, in neighbouring Alcantarilha,  constitutes a different attraction with an strange beauty. Attached to Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, the Bones Chapel dates back to the 16th century. Its interior is covered by more than 1500 human bones, which are thought to have belonged to the Jesuits who perished in the region.

Historical Algarve Tour

FIESA – International Sand Sculpture Festival

The spectacular 12-meter-high sand sculptures await you in the grounds of the world’s largest sand sculpture festival in Pêra which just 5 minutes from Armação de Pêra. In 2019 the park will move nearer to Lagoa, however it will still be within easy reach. In addition to the 35,000 tons of sand used for the sculptures, the festival also includes live music shows several times a year.  During the summer FIESA is open until midnight so it’s a great way to spend an evening.

While the west coast and Sagres might be the most famous surf destinations in the Algarve,  Armação de Pêra is a great spot to learn surfing for the first time. The huge beach which stretches almost 5km to Albufeira has plenty of space for surfers, swimmers and those who just want to sunbathe.

If you’re looking for something a little simpler and quicker to learn than surfing, then try some bodyboarding. Boards can be purchased at shops along the beach front and they’re also available to rent.

Explore the secret beaches and mysterious caves of Armação de Pêra aboard a kayak with space for up to three people which means its great for all the family. Take a kayak tour through the rocks and cliffs of this area getting closer than boat can go and at your own pace. From Albufeira Marina (about 20 minutes away) there are also trips with a dedicated support boat to take you to the best areas, and you can also rest onboard when you’ve had enough of paddling!



Horse riding

Who has ever dreamt of being able to ride a horse through verdant fields or virgin and untouched sandy beaches towards the horizon? Just 5 minutes from Armação de Pêra at Salgados is one of very few locations in the Algarve where it is possible to ride on the beach so it’s a great place to go for a trek.

Treks are available all year, however in peak season it may not be possible to go on the beach so do check before booking. However whichever route you take the natural beauty of the lagoons and dunes of this area means you won’t be disappointed.  If you do not feel comfortable enough on the saddle, lessons are also available.
