Great news has been forwarded by the Algarve Tourism Association, who proudly announced the renewal of this valuable prize.
The Algarve is a region where tourism is characterised by its seasonality which is linked to “beach and sun” products and has invested in golf in the last few years as to fill the gap created by that same seasonality. Algarve’s mild winter, with little rain, offers great weather conditions to the practice of this sport year round, on any of its 40 courses all over the south of the country.
Those who travel here for the golf end up being surprised, not only by the quality of the courses that were designed by internationally renowned architects but also by its natural beauty, gastronomy and varied leisure activities found in this region.
It is the fourth consecutive year that the Algarve receives this distinction, given by the readers of the British magazine Today’s Golfer, a monthly magazine published by Bauer, which writes about news such as golfing equipment, tests and reviews of golfing equipment, tourism professionals tips, evaluation of courses and specialized articles, since 1988.

Thousands of readers voted within the scope of Today’s Golfer annual Travel Awards and the Algarve was once again elected the best destination for the practice of this sport.
The magazine has organized this event since 2011 and asks its readers to vote within 12 categories.
In this way, the Algarve sees its total of prizes attributed by the British increase to 9.
João Fernandes, president of Turismo do Algarve has publicly stated that “this is excellent news for our region and a huge pride to all those who work in the golf tourism industry in the Algarve and that daily, prioritize giving their clients the best experience possible. This prize recognizes the effort of a vast team of business people and professionals. It is to them we owe this extraordinary achievement (…)”.
Kevin Brown, editor of Today’s Golfer also gave words of appreciation to the prize winners. “We congratulate the Algarve for another well deserved victory at the Travel Awards. The region has a lot to offer both on and off the golf courses and no wonder golfers want to revisit this region over and over again. This fourth consecutive year being voted number one destination is clearly the most popular amongst our readers.)
This prize comes to join another one that the Algarve received in October 2019: “Best World Golf Destination 2020” by the International Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), the organization which represents golf tourism at a global level, in its 20th edition of the IAGTO Awards.
In a vote that counted with over 700 tour operators, specialized in this industry and from over 60 countries, the Algarve was the favourite regarding offer of best experience to those who practice this sport.
