Ok Stags; it’s time for you to say goodbye to single life in style – with a Stag Do in Albufeira! The popular Algarve resort has everything a stag and their party of loyal soldiers need for a send-off to remember (or maybe not) – from boat parties to boozy brunches, happy hour-price pints and those all-important full English breakfasts for the morning after.
Just 30 minutes from Faro Airport, Albufeira is one of the Algarve’s most popular coastal resorts, being particularly popular among stag and hen dos. Comprising a colourful Marina, a quaint Old Town, and the dizzying Bar Strip, it has plenty of choice for a fun-filled few days.
With gorgeous golden beaches, this renowned party town offers everything to cater for an epic stag do: swanky nightclubs, karaoke bars, restaurants for all tastes, fun day-time activities and accommodation that span the entire budget spectrum, from budget B&Bs to luxury villas and first-class resorts.
Home to the infamous ‘Strip’ – the colloquial name given to Avenida Sá Carneiro, a long avenue lined with flashy neon bars and restaurants that stretches between the Montehoro neighbourhood and Areias de São João, the ultimate bar crawl – Albufeira is a party-goers dream.
Most hotels in Albufeira are within walking distance of a good beach, and Old Town Albufeira is another option for those looking for an enjoyable night out (although probably not quite as raucous as The Strip!).
Albufeira, unlike many other popular Algarve resorts, seems to have a nightlife that can get pretty buzzing most of the year – but never as much as in summer, when it takes partying to new heights. With low-cost flights to Faro from across the UK year-round, it’s also worth bearing in mind that staying in Albufeira during the off-peak season is significantly cheaper.
Either way, it’s recommended that larger groups book any activities as early as possible, especially in summer. So take a look at the top Albufeira hotels recommended for stag dos and get planning!
The Vilanova Resort’s great location right at the top of Albufeira’s infamous strip and less than a kilometre walk to Oura Beach makes it a popular choice for people looking to party by night and relax by day. If the 1km walk to the beach does seem a little too far, it also has an outdoor pool complete with the obligatory pool bar and tennis court. Being a short walk Albufeira’s famed nightlife spots, Vilanova is a popular choice for fun-loving groups; it’s large-party-friendly, with self-catering studios, one and two-bedroom apartments and villas with up to three bedrooms.
Clube Ouratlântico is another sound option for large parties. Just a few minutes’ walk to The Strip, you could pretty much roll out of one of the 72 apartments and straight into a bar. The spacious units accommodate from two to six people, and there are two generous pools onsite, as well as a snack bar that serves breakfast.
Slightly further away from the hustle and bustle of Albufeira’s nightlife, yet still only a short walk away, this vast complex is a traditional whitewashed Algarve resort, with good-size clean and basic rooms, spacious fully-equipped kitchens for self-catering, and excellent onsite facilities. A 10-minute walk to Oura beach and The Strip, it hosts a nice mix of guests of all ages and families who return every year. It is also conveniently located near to a supermarket and has evening entertainment… if you feel like taking a night off….
Located right on the beachfront and just a few minutes walk to Albufeira’s charming Old Town and its bars, clubs and restaurants, the highly recommended Sol e Mar is a long-standing Albufeira favourite for its location. It is also just a short taxi ride from the Strip and also enjoys a beachfront positiont. Sol e Mar also has a convenient all-inclusive option, as well as a roof-top restaurant.
Hotel Brisa Sol is one of Albufeira’s most popular hotels for groups and party-goers thanks to its size and central location. Basic but clean and comfortable and great for holidaymakers on a budget, it sits on the main road through Albufeira, pretty much bang in the middle of the Strip and the Old Town, which are both less than a 15-minute walk away. As well as offering convenience and value for money, the hotel has good facilities, including an indoor heated swimming pool, a large outdoor pool, and a spa and gym.
Another no-frills, budget-friendly option is the three-star Belver Hotel da Aldeia. A strong contender for its location, convenience and pricing, it’s flanked by a plethora of restaurant and bars, having The Strip right on its doorstep, making it popular among the 18-30 crowd. Slightly dated, it’s the place to stay if your intention is to party all night and sleep (a little) during the day.
If you’d rather be a little way away from the action in a quieter setting, and don’t mind digging a little deeper into the wallet, then consider the TUI Blue Falésia, one of Albufeira’s leading all-inclusive resorts. Set high on soaring ochre cliffs that overlook Albufeira’s famed Falésia beach, TUI Blue Falésia is an adults-only resort. A short walk from Falesia Beach, this upscale, polished hotel is also just 2km from the Pine Cliffs Golf Course and a 15-minute drive to Albufeira.
