Come aboard the Catamaran Ophelia for a boat trip to the caves and beach BBQ and sail through the Atlantic Ocean for a full day (the trip takes around 6 hours). This is the perfect opportunity to get to know the magnificent Algarve coast, full of caves and rocks of bizarre formations (like the rocks “Yellow Submarine” or “The Arc of Triumph”).
Catamaran Ophelia, with space for up to 120 people and equipped with lifeboats, departs from Zona Ribeirinha, sailing east towards Armação de Pêra. Along the way you will get to see the beautiful picturesque village of Ferragudo with its historic castle of Praia Grande.
When the catamaran arrives at Armação de Pêra, guests transfer to smaller boats and head to Algar de Benagil. Algar de Benagil, located inside Benagil Cave, is probably the most well-known natural monument in the Algarve because of its monstrous size and the explosion of colours that seem to dance inside. The cave’s rugged walls grow in a spiral towards the algar (a kind of hole in the ceiling). The cave is absolutely stunning and was considered one of the most beautiful cave in the world by the Michelin Guide.
After visiting Algar de Benagil, Catamaran Ophelia visits another natural monument: Algar Seco. This monument consists of a series of rocks, caves and natural pools of an incredibly blue water. It is also at Algar Seco that lies the famous “Doll” (“Boneca” in Portuguese), a rock with the shape of an inverted cone and which looks like a doll when seen from the sea.
Around lunch time, the boat lays anchor at one of the fantastic beaches nearby and lunch starts being prepared. The trip includes a barbecue on the beach for the passengers and it is honestly one of the best parts of the day. The barbecue includes bread, a typical Algarve salad, mixed grilled meats, fruit, wine, water and juices. While lunch is cooked, you can have fun exploring the beach, bathe in the Algarve sea, play some beach volleyball or football, or simply relax and sunbathe.
This boat trip is great for group families, Stag Do or Hen Dos!
This is a trip you most certainly will not want to miss, just make sure not to forget the bathing suit nor the sunscreen!
